Feel The Medieval Spirit In Trakai

Fascinated by the medieval castles? We will welcome you in Trakai in the place of residents of the Lithuanian Dukes.

Only ruins have left out of the medieval Trakai Peninsular Castle: it was greatly damaged during the wars with Sweden and Russia in the mid 17th century. The castle ruins have been preserved, and a 13 metre height defensive tower was restored.

The greatest ornament of the Trakai town, the Trakai Island Castle surrounded by the waters of Lake Galvė, was also damaged in the mid 17th century. The strongest and greatest fortress of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was partially restored and fully reconstructed in the 1970’s. Currently the castle houses Trakai History Museum. It is the only castle built on the island in the Eastern Europe.
