Labour Market

The economic downturn has affected the job market all over the world, including Lithuania. It seems that we have been able to cope with this challenge: At the end of 2010 unemployment rate in our country was lower than the previous months of 2010. Consolidation of public finances, growing economic indicators, new recruitment ads on corporate websites are indicative of fast improvement in our labour market.

Small businesses have started offering more jobs. Nearly half of all jobs are in the services sector, about one-third – in industry, others – in construction and agriculture. Greater employment opportunities are offered for doctors, insurance and sales managers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning engineers, and teachers of English.

The need for unskilled labour has been falling down. Among the most sought professions have remained drivers of international carriage vehicles, bartenders, waiters, butchers, metal structure installers.

The situation of the Lithuanian labour market has been closely monitored by the Labour Exchange Office, which analyzes the demand and supply on monthly and quarterly basis, forecasts possible changes in the labour market, and publish lists of professions in demand.
