Citizenship
If you live permanently in Lithuania and wish to obtain Lithuanian citizenship, you have to apply to the territorial Migration Office requesting citizenship, or retention of Lithuanian citizenship and its implementation, or children’ citizenship, and submit the required documentation.
If you live permanently abroad, and wish to acquire or to retain the Lithuanian citizenship or acquire the Lithuanian citizenship for your children, you have to submit your application together with required documents to the Department of Immigration (1 Sapiegos str., Vilnius) or the Lithuanian diplomatic missions, consular posts abroad.
The Law on the Citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania defines individuals eligible for the Lithuanian citizenship. It also specifies cases for the children under 18 to be considered as holders of the Lithuanian citizenship, or citizenship retention cases.
